GivingTuesday Facebook Fundraisers

Steps to create a GivingTuesday fundraiser on Facebook:

  • Go to https://www.facebook.com/pg/SETBP1/fundraisers/.
  • Click the “Raise Money” button on the right side of the page.
  • Confirm that SETBP1 Society is selected as the beneficiary.
  • Enter the amount you would like to raise, the end date for the fundraiser, and give your fundraiser a title (example: Trina’s #GivingTuesday Fundraiser for SETBP1 Society)
  • Enter a story about why you support our organization, about Donating on GivingTuesday and/or about your connection to SETBP1 disorder (Sample content provided below). Or you can choose to leave the default text.
  • Select a Cover Photo from our GivingTuesday selection.

  • Click Create to publish your Facebook Fundraiser!
  • ***IMPORTANT*** After you create the fundraiser, for these fundraisers to work, you have to INVITE your friend list one by one. It’s tedious, but it’s really the only way people will see it due to Facebook algorithms

How to add a Donation Sticker on Instagram Stories:

  • Tap the donation sticker button after you’ve taken a photo or video in the Instagram Stories camera.
  • Type SETBP1 Society in the “Select nonprofits” search bar.
  • Once you’ve selected SETBP1 Society, give the sticker a fundraiser title: Help Support SETBP1
  • You can customize the color of your quiz by tapping the color wheel at the top of the screen.
  • Share your story to let your followers start donating to your favorite cause!
  • To see how much you’ve raised, just swipe up on the live story. The full amount of what you see in your stats will go straight to SETBP1 Society!

Sample GivingTuesday Facebook Fundraiser Content:

Our child, CHILD’S NAME, was diagnosed with SETBP1 disorder. SETBP1 disorder is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder and causes a spectrum of symptoms including absent speech to expressive language delays, mild to severe intellectual disability, autistic-traits or autism, developmental delays, seizures and ADHD. Less than 20 cases worldwide have been published about SETBP1 disorder and less than 140 known individuals have the disorder. We need targeted research to help us better understand this ultra rare disorder.

For last year’s GivingTuesday, our community raised funds to build our SETBP1 mouse models and to kick off characterization. Since then, the development of 2 SETBP1 mice were finalized at The Jackson Laboratory and made available for researcher access. Those 2 mice models are now in the hands of a researcher at Baylor and characterization is underway! Do these mice have a SETBP1 disorder phenotype? Will they serve as viable disease models for SETBP1 disorder research? What else changes in these mice when their SETBP1 protein production is decreased? What differences do we see when SETBP1 protein is too high versus too low? These are questions we need to answer and we need funds to answer those questions. We also need more researchers, medical specialists, therapists and the community more aware of our child’s disorder.
